The absolute truth of the matter that not everyone realises is that nearly all body piercings are anatomy dependent. What this means is that just because you have a tongue, doesn’t necessarily mean you can have a tongue piercing as your tongue may not be suitable. Just because you have a belly button, doesn’t mean that you can have it pierced, as again it may not be suitable. Just because you have a tragus, again it may not be suitable for a piercing. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – WE ARE ALL THE SAME BUT DIFFERENT!!!
Believe it or not, this IS NOT the body piercers’ fault! If the part of your anatomy is not suitable for a piercing, then a good body piercer will advise you of that rather than just give you the piercing anyway to get your money. I’m not saying that body piercers are just there for the money, as 99% of them love the job they do and will advise you if they think that your anatomy is not suitable for the particular piercing that you are wanting (after all, it is their job and they know what they’re talking about). HOWEVER! there are the odd few that have the philosophy that if you can pinch it then you can pierce it! Not a fantastic point of view in my opinion :0(
Lets take a few examples so that it’s clear what I’m gibbering on about, but generally it is almost impossible to say for definite without seeing it first :0)
Belly buttons: Innies, usually not a problem. Outies, depends on how much it protrudes. Surgically modified, depends on the way it has been modified.
Ears: Now these are a whole different ballgame. Ears come in so many different shapes and sizes that it is virtually impossible to say without seeing if the part you want pierced is suitable or not. Tragus – might be too small, Scaffold – cartilage may be too awkwardly shaped, Snug – may be so small can’t even see it!, Rook – may be too small etc, etc, etc
Tongue: May not be long enough, may be tongue tied, veins may be too close together.
These are just a few examples and of course the list is far more complex than the few that I have mentioned, but if your body piercer advises you against a particular piercing, be assured that it is for a good reason.
Basically, the point of the post is that it’s all very well wanting this piercing or that piercing but be advised by your piercer if you can actually get the piercing that you want. All being well 9 times out of 10 you will be able to, but don’t blame the piercer if you can’t, we’re only here to help you!
